To A. J. Scott Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABA BCB CDC DED EFE FF D

When long ago the daring of my youthA
Drew nigh thy greatness with a little thingB
Thou didst receive me and thy sky of truthA
-
Has domed me since a heaven of shelteringB
Made homely by the tenderness and graceC
Which round thy absolute friendship ever flingB
-
A radiant atmosphere Turn not thy faceC
From that small part of earnest thanks I prayD
Which spoken leaves much more in speechless caseC
-
I see thee far before me on thy wayD
Up the great peaks and striding stronger stillE
Thy intellect unrivalled in its swayD
-
Upheld and ordered by a regnant willE
Thy wisdom seer and priest of holy fateF
Searching all truths its prophecy to fillE
-
But this my joy throned in thy heart so greatF
High Love is queen and sits without a mateF
-
-
MayD
