This World Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEDEFG HGHGII GJGJGG KGKGGG LMNOGG EPEQRR SGTGBBThy world is made to fit thine own | A |
A nursery for thy children small | B |
The playground footstool of thy throne | A |
Thy solemn school room Father of all | B |
When day is done in twilight's gloom | C |
We pass into thy presence room | C |
- | |
Because from selfishness and wrath | D |
Our cold and hot extremes of ill | E |
We grope and stagger on the path | D |
Thou tell'st us from thy holy hill | E |
With icy storms and sunshine rude | F |
That we are all unripe in good | G |
- | |
Because of snaky things that creep | H |
Through our soul's sea dim undulant | G |
Thou fill'st the mystery of thy deep | H |
With faces heartless grim and gaunt | G |
That we may know how ugly seem | I |
The things our spirit oceans teem | I |
- | |
Because of half way things that hold | G |
Good names and have a poisonous breath | J |
Prudence that is but trust in gold | G |
And faith that is but fear of death | J |
Amongst thy flowers the lovely brood | G |
Thou sendest some that are not good | G |
- | |
Thou stay'st thy hand from finishing things | K |
To make thy child love the complete | G |
Full many a flower comes up thy springs | K |
Unshamed in imperfection sweet | G |
That through good all and good in part | G |
Thy work be perfect in the heart | G |
- | |
Because in careless confidence | L |
So oft we leave the narrow way | M |
Its borders thorny hedges fence | N |
Beyond them marshy deeps affray | O |
But farther on the heavenly road | G |
Lies through the gardens of our God | G |
- | |
Because thy sheep so often will | E |
Forsake the meadow cool and damp | P |
To climb the stony grassless hill | E |
Or wallow in the slimy swamp | Q |
Thy sicknesses where'er they roam | R |
Go after them to bring them home | R |
- | |
One day all fear all ugliness | S |
All pain all discord dumb or loud | G |
All selfishness and all distress | T |
Will melt like low spread morning cloud | G |
And heart and brain be free from thrall | B |
Because thou God art all in all | B |
