The Thankless Lady Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IFIF JKJK LHLH CACA

It is May and the moon leans down at nightA
Over a blossomy landB
Leans from her window a lady whiteA
With her cheek upon her handB
-
Oh why in the blue so misty moonC
Why so dull in the skyD
Thou look'st like one that is ready to swoonC
Because her tear well is dryD
-
Enough enough of longing and wailE
Oh bird I pray thee be gladF
Sing to me once dear nightingaleE
The old song merry madF
-
Hold hold with thy blossoming colourless coldG
Apple tree white as woeH
Blossom yet once with the blossom of oldG
Let the roses shine through the snowH
-
The moon and the blossoms they gloomily gleamI
The bird will not be gladF
The dead never speak when the mournful dreamI
They are too weak and sadF
-
Listened she listless till night grew lateJ
Bound by a weary spellK
Then clanked the latch of the garden gateJ
And a wondrous thing befellK
-
Out burst the gladness up dawned the loveL
In the song in the waiting showH
Grew silver the moon in the sky aboveL
Blushed rosy the blossom belowH
-
But the merry bird nor the silvery moonC
Nor the blossoms that flushed the nightA
Had one poor thanks for the granted boonC
The lady forgot them quiteA
