The Sleepless Jesus Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCE FGFGHIHE JKJKLELE MNMNFEFE BOBONENE

'Tis time to sleep my little boyA
Why gaze thy bright eyes soB
At night our children for new joyA
Home to thy father goB
But thou art wakeful Sleep my childC
The moon and stars are goneD
The wind is up and raving wildC
But thou art smiling onE
-
My child thou hast immortal eyesF
That see by their own lightG
They see the children's blood it liesF
Red glowing through the nightG
Thou hast an ever open earH
For sob or cry or moanI
Thou seemest not to see or hearH
Thou only smilest onE
-
When first thou camest to the earthJ
All sounds of strife were stillK
A silence lay about thy birthJ
And thou didst sleep thy fillK
Thou wakest now why weep'st thou notL
Thy earth is woe begoneE
Both babes and mothers wail their lotL
But still thou smilest onE
-
I read thy face like holy bookM
No hurt is pictured thereN
Deep in thine eyes I see the lookM
Of one who answers prayerN
Beyond pale grief and wild uproarsF
Thou seest God's will well doneE
Low prayers through chambers' closed doorsF
Thou hear'st and smilest onE
-
Men say I will arise and goB
God says I will go meetO
Thou seest them gather weeping lowB
About the Father's feetO
And each for each begin to bearN
And standing lonely noneE
Answered O eyes ye see all prayerN
Smile Son of God smile onE
