With joyful pride her heart is highA
Her humble house doth holdB
The man her nation's prophecyC
Long ages hath foretoldB
-
Poor is he Yes and lowly bornD
Her woman soul is proudE
To know and hail the coming mornD
Before the eyeless crowdE
-
At her poor table will he eatF
He shall be served thereG
With honour and devotion meetF
For any king that wereH
-
'Tis all she can she does her partI
Profuse in sacrificeJ
Nor dreams that in her unknown heartI
A better offering liesK
-
But many crosses she must bearG
Her plans are turned and bentL
Do what she can things will not wearG
The form of her intentL
-
With idle hands and drooping lidM
See Mary sit at restN
Shameful it was her sister didM
No service for their guestN
-
Dear Martha one day Mary's lotO
Must rule thy hands and eyesK
Thou all thy household cares forgotO
Must sit as idly wiseK
-
But once more first she set her wordP
To bar her master's waysQ
Crying By this he stinketh LordR
He hath been dead four daysQ
-
Her housewife soul her brother dearS
Would fetter where he liesK
Ah did her buried best then hearT
And with the dead man riseK
