What human form is this what form divineB
And who are these that gaze upon his faceC
Mild beautiful and full of heavenly graceC
With whose reflected light the gazers shineB
Saviour who does not know it to be thineB
Who does not long to fill a gazer's placeC
And yet there is no time there is no spaceC
To keep away thy servants from thy shrineB
Here if we kneel and watch with faithful eyesD
Thou art not too far for faithful eyes to seeE
Thou art not too far to turn and look on meE
To speak to me and to receive my sighsD
Therefore for ever I forget the skiesD
And find an everlasting Sun in theeE

Oh let us never leave that happy throngF
From that low attitude of love not ceaseG
In all the world there is no other peaceG
In all the world no other shield from wrongF
But chiefly Saviour for thy feet we longF
For no vain quiet for no pride's increaseG
But that being weak and Thou divinely strongF
Us from our hateful selves thou mayst releaseG
We wander from thy fold's free holy airH
Forget thy looks and take our fill of sinI
But if thou keep us evermore withinI
We never surely can forget thee thereH
Breathing thy breath thy white robe given to wearH
And loving thee for all thou diedst to winI

To speak of him in language of our ownJ
Is not for us too daringly to tryA
But Saviour we can read thy historyE
Upon the faces round thy humble throneJ
And as the flower among the grass makes knownJ
What summer suns have warmed it from the skyA
As every human smile and human sighA
Is witness that we do not live aloneJ
So in that company in those sweet tearsK
The first born of a rugged melted heartL
In those gaunt chains for ever torn apartL
And in the words that weeping mother hearsM
We read the story of two thousand yearsN
And know thee somewhat Saviour as thou artL
