The Burnt-offering Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACDDCEF

Thrice happy he whose heart each new born nightA
When old worn day hath vanished o'er earth's brimB
And he hath laid him down in chamber dimB
Straightway begins to tremble and grow brightA
And loose faint flashes toward the vaulted heightA
Of the great peace that overshadoweth himB
Keen lambent flames of hope awake and swimB
Throughout his soul touching each point with lightA
The great earth under him an altar isC
Upon whose top a sacrifice he liesD
Burning in love's response up to the skiesD
Whose fire descended first and kindled hisC
When slow the flickering flames at length expireE
Sleep's ashes only hide a glowing fireF
