Punishment Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBA ABBA CDDCCD

Mourner that dost deserve thy mournfulnessA
Call thyself punished call the earth thy hellB
Say God is angry and I earned it wellB
I would not have him smile on wickednessA
-
Say this and straightway all thy grief grows lessA
God rules at least I find as prophets tellB
And proves it in this prison then thy cellB
Smiles with an unsuspected lovelinessA
-
A prison and yet from door and window barC
I catch a thousand breaths of his sweet airD
Even to me his days and nights are fairD
He shows me many a flower and many a starC
And though I mourn and he is very farC
He does not kill the hope that reaches thereD
