No Sign Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD AEAE ABAB FGFG HIHI JKJK LMLM

O Lord if on the wind at cool of dayA
I heard one whispered word of mighty graceB
If through the darkness as in bed I layA
But once had come a hand upon my faceB
-
If but one sign that might not be mistookC
Had ever been since first thy face I soughtD
I should not now be doubting o'er a bookC
But serving thee with burning heart and thoughtD
-
So dreams that heart But to my heart I sayA
Turning my face to front the dark and windE
Such signs had only barred anew his wayA
Into thee longing heart thee wildered mindE
-
They asked the very Way where lies the wayA
The very Son where is the Father's faceB
How he could show himself if not in clayA
Who was the lord of spirit form and spaceB
-
My being Lord will nevermore be wholeF
Until thou come behind mine ears and eyesG
Enter and fill the temple of my soulF
With perfect contact such a sweet surpriseG
-
Such presence as before it met the viewH
The prophet fancy could not once foreseeI
Though every corner of the temple knewH
By very emptiness its need of theeI
-
When I keep all thy words no favoured someJ
Heedless of worldly winds or judgment's tideK
Then Jesus thou wilt with thy father comeJ
Oh ended prayers and in my soul abideK
-
Ah long delay ah cunning creeping sinL
I shall but fail and cease at length to tryM
O Jesus though thou wilt not yet come inL
Knock at my window as thou passest byM
