Little Bo Peep she has lost her sheepA
And will not know where to find themB
They are over the height and out of sightC
Trailing their tails behind themB
-
Little Bo Peep woke out of her sleepA
Jump'd up and set out to find themB
The silly things they've got no wingsD
And they've left their trails behind themB
-
They've taken their tails but they've left their trailsE
And so I shall follow and find themB
For wherever a tail had dragged a trailF
The grass lay bent behind themB
-
She washed in the brook and caught up her crookG
And after her sheep did runH
Along the trail that went up the daleF
Across the grass in the sunH
-
She ran with a will and she came to a hillI
That went up steep like a spireJ
On its very top the sun seemed to stopK
And burned like a flame of fireL
-
But now she went slow for the hill did goM
Up steeper as she went higherL
When she reached its crown the sun was downN
Leaving a trail of fireL
-
And her sheep were gone and hope she had noneH
For now was no trail behind themB
Yes there they were long tailed and fairO
But to see was not to find themB
-
Golden in hue and rosy and blueP
And white as blossom of pearsQ
Her sheep they did run in the trail of the sunH
As she had been running in theirsQ
-
After the sun like clouds they did runH
But she knew they were her sheepA
She sat down to cry and look up at the skyR
But she cried herself to sleepA
-
And as she slept the dew down weptS
And the wind did blow from the skyR
And doings strange brought a lovely changeT
She woke with a different cryR
-
Nibble nibble crop without a stopK
A hundred little lambsU
Did pluck and eat the grass so sweetV
That grew in the trail of their damsU
-
She gave one look she caught up her crookG
Wiped away the sleep that did blind herL
And nibble nibble crop without a stopK
The lambs came nibbling behind herL
-
Home home she came both tired and lameW
With three times as large a stockX
In a month or more they'll be sheep as beforeY
A lovely long wooled flockX
-
But what will she say if one fine dayZ
When they've got their bushiest tailsE
Their grown up game should be just the sameW
And again she must follow mere trailsE
-
Never weep Bo Peep though you lose your sheepA
Tears will turn rainbow laughterL
In the trail of the sun if the mothers did runH
The lambs are sure to run afterL
-
But a day is coming when little feet drummingA2
Will wake you up to find themB
All the old sheep how your heart will leapA
With their big little lambs behind themB
