I know what beauty is for thouA
Hast set the world within my heartB
Of me thou madest it a partB
I never loved it more than nowA
-
I know the Sabbath afternoonsC
The light asleep upon the gravesD
Against the sky the poplar wavesD
The river murmurs organ tunesC
-
I know the spring with bud and bellE
The hush in summer woods at nightF
Autumn when trees let in more lightF
Fantastic winter's lovely spellE
-
I know the rapture music givesG
Its mystery of ordered tonesH
Dream muffled soul it loves and moansH
And half alive comes in and livesG
-
And verse I know whose concord highI
Of thought and music lifts the soulJ
Where many a glimmering starry shoalJ
Glides through the Godhead's living skyI
-
Yea Beauty's regnant All I knowK
The imperial head the thoughtful eyesL
The God imprisoned harmoniesM
That out in gracious motions goK
-
But I leave all O Son of manN
Put off my shoes and come to theeO
Most lovely thou of all I seeO
Most potent thou of all that canN
-
As child forsakes his favourite toyP
His sisters' sport his new found nestQ
And climbing to his mother's breastQ
Enjoys yet more his late left joyP
-
I lose to find On fair browed brideR
Fair pearls their fairest light affordS
So gathered round thy glory LordS
All glory else is glorifiedR
