God; Not Gift Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEDE FGFG HIHI JKJK DEDE

Gray clouds my heaven have covered o'erA
My sea ebbs fast no more to flowB
Ghastly and dry my desert shoreC
Parched bare unsightly things doth showB
-
'Tis thou Lord cloudest up my skyD
Stillest the heart throb of my seaE
Tellest the sad wind not to sighD
Yea life itself to wait for theeE
-
Lord here I am empty enoughF
My music but a soundless moanG
Blind hope of all my household stuffF
Leaves me blind hope not quite aloneG
-
Shall hope too go that I may trustH
Purely in thee and spite of allI
Then turn my very heart to dustH
On thee on thee I yet will callI
-
List list his wind among the pinesJ
Hark hark that rushing is his sea'sK
O Father these are but thy signsJ
For thee I hunger not for theseK
-
Not joy itself though pure and highD
No gift will do instead of theeE
Let but my spirit know thee nighD
And all the world may sleep for meE
