From North Wales: To The Mother Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCDD EEFG HHII CCJJ KKLL MMNN DBMM

When the summer gave us a longer dayA
And the leaves were thickest I went awayA
Like an isle through dark clouds of the infinite blueB
Was that summer ramble from London and youB
-
It was but one burst into life and airC
One backward glance on the skirts of careC
A height on the hills with the smoke belowD
And the joy that came quickly was quick to goD
-
But I know and I cannot forget so soonE
How the Earth is shone on by Sun and MoonE
How the clouds hide the mountains and how they moveF
When the morning sunshine lies warm aboveG
-
I know how the waters fall and runH
In the rocks and the heather away from the sunH
How they hang like garlands on all hill sidesI
And are the land's music those crystal tidesI
-
I know how they gather in valleys fairC
Meet valleys those beautiful waves to bearC
How they dance through the rocks how they rest in the poolJ
How they darken how sparkle and how they are coolJ
-
I know how the rocks from their kisses climbK
To keep the storms off with a front sublimeK
And how on their platforms and sloping wallsL
The shadow of oak tree and fir tree fallsL
-
I know how the valleys are bright from farM
Rocks meadows and waters the wood and the scaurM
And how the roadside and the nearest hillN
The foxglove and heather and harebell fillN
-
I know but the joy that was quick to goD
Gave more knowledge to me than words can shewB
And you know the story and how they fareM
Who love the green earth and the heavenly airM
