Christmas, 1873 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDEF GFGF HIHI FBFB FJFJ

Christmas Days are still in storeA
Will they change steal faded hitherB
Or come fresh as heretoforeA
Summering all our winter weatherB
-
Surely they will keep their bloomC
All the countless pacing agesD
In the country whence they comeE
Children only are the sagesF
-
Hither every hour and yearG
Children come to cure our oldnessF
Oft alas to gather searG
Unbelief and earthy boldnessF
-
Men they grow and women coldH
Selfish passionate and plainingI
Ever faster they grow oldH
On the world ah eld is gainingI
-
Child whose childhood ne'er departsF
Jesus with the perfect fatherB
Drive the age from parents' heartsF
To thy heart the children gatherB
-
Send thy birth into our soulsF
With its grand and tender storyJ
Hark the gracious thunder rollsF
News to men to God old gloryJ
