I Thank Thee boundless GiverA
That the thoughts Thou givest flowB
In sounds that like a riverA
All through the darkness goB
And though few should swell the pleasureA
By sharing this my wineC
My heart will clasp its treasureA
This secret gift of ThineC
-
My heart the joy inheritsD
And will oft be sung to restE
And some wandering hoping spiritsF
May listen and be blestE
For the sound may break the hoursG
In a dark and gloomy moodH
As the wind breaks up the bowersG
Of the brooding sunless woodI
-
For every sound of gladnessG
Is a prophet wind that tellsG
Of a summer without sadnessG
And a love without farewellsG
And a heart that hath no ailingJ
And an eye that is not dimK
And a faith that without failingJ
Shall be complete in HimK
-
And when my heart is mourningJ
The songs it lately gaveL
Back to their fount returningJ
Make sweet the bitter waveL
And forth a new stream flowethM
In sunshine winding fairN
And through the dark wood goethM
Glad laughter on the airN
-
For the heart of man that wakethM
Yet hath not ceased to dreamO
Is the only fount that makethM
The sweet and bitter streamO
But the sweet will still be flowingJ
When the bitter stream is dryP
And glad music only goingJ
On the breezes of the skyP
-
I thank Thee boundless GiverA
That the thoughts Thou givest flowB
In sounds that like a riverA
All through the darkness goB
And though few should swell the pleasureA
By sharing this my wineC
My heart will clasp its treasureA
This secret gift of ThineC
