A Noonday Melody Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABAB CDCDCD EFEFEF GHGHGH

Everything goes to its restA
The hills are asleep in the noonB
And life is as still in its nestA
As the moon when she looks on a moonB
In the depth of a calm river's breastA
As it steals through a midnight in JuneB
-
The streams have forgotten the seaC
In the dream of their musical soundD
The sunlight is thick on the treeC
And the shadows lie warm on the groundD
So still you may watch them and seeC
Every breath that awakens aroundD
-
The churchyard lies still in the heatE
With its handful of mouldering boneF
As still as the long stalk of wheatE
In the shadow that sits by the stoneF
As still as the grass at my feetE
When I walk in the meadows aloneF
-
The waves are asleep on the mainG
And the ships are asleep on the waveH
And the thoughts are as still in my brainG
As the echo that sleeps in the caveH
All rest from their labour and painG
Then why should not I in my graveH
