A Dead House Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFGFHIHI JKJKLMLM NONPQEQE

When the clock hath ceased to tickA
Soul like in the gloomy hallB
When the latch no more doth clickA
Tongue like in the red peach wallB
When no more come sounds of playC
Mice nor children romping roamD
Then looks down the eye of dayC
On a dead house not a homeD
-
But when like an old sun's ghostE
Haunts her vault the spectral moonF
When earth's margins all are lostG
Melting shapes nigh merged in swoonF
Then a sound hark there againH
No 'tis not a nibbling mouseI
'Tis a ghost unseen of menH
Walking through the bare floored houseI
-
And with lightning on the stairJ
To that silent upper roomK
With the thunder shaken airJ
Sudden gleaming into gloomK
With a frost wind whistling roundL
From the raging northern coastsM
Then mid sieging light and soundL
All the house is live with ghostsM
-
Brother is thy soul a cellN
Empty save of glittering motesO
Where no live loves live and dwellN
Only notions things and thoughtsP
Then thou wilt when comes a BreathQ
Tempest shaking ridge and postE
Find thyself alone with DeathQ
In a house where walks no ghostE
