From the German of DesslerA
-
O Lord how happy is the timeB
When in thy love I restC
When from my weariness I climbB
Even to thy tender breastC
The night of sorrow endeth thereA
Thou art brighter than the sunD
And in thy pardon and thy careA
The heaven of heaven is wonD
-
Let the world call herself my foeE
Or let the world allureA
I care not for the world I goE
To this dear friend and sureA
And when life's fiercest storms are sentF
Upon life's wildest seaG
My little bark is confidentH
Because it holds by theeG
-
When the law threatens endless deathI
Upon the dreadful hillJ
Straightway from her consuming breathI
My soul goeth higher stillJ
Goeth to Jesus wounded slainK
And maketh him her homeL
Whence she will not go out againM
And where death cannot comeN
-
I do not fear the wildernessO
Where thou hast been beforeA
Nay rather will I daily pressP
After thee near thee moreA
Thou art my food on thee I leanQ
Thou makest my heart singR
And to thy heavenly pastures greenQ
All thy dear flock dost bringR
-
And if the gate that opens thereA
Be dark to other menM
It is not dark to those who shareA
The heart of Jesus thenM
That is not losing much of lifeS
Which is not losing theeG
Who art as present in the strifeS
As in the victoryG
-
Therefore how happy is the timeB
When in thy love I restC
When from my weariness I climbB
Even to thy tender breastC
The night of sorrow endeth thereA
Thou art brighter than the sunD
And in thy pardon and thy careA
The heaven of heaven is wonD
