In the spirit s solitary hoursA
It is lovely to walk in the sunB
Along the yellow walls of summerC
Quietly whisper the steps in the grass yet always sleepsD
The son of Pan in the grey marbleE
-
At eventide on the terrace we got drunk on brown wineF
The red peach glows under the foliageG
Tender sonata joyous laughterC
-
Lovely is this silence of the nightH
On the dark plainsI
We gather with shepherds and the white starsJ
-
When autumn risesK
The grove is a sight of sober clarityL
Along the red walls we loiter at easeM
And the round eyes follow the flight of birdsN
In the evening pale water gathers in the dregs of burial urnsN
-
Heaven celebrates sitting in bare branchesN
In hallowed hands the yeoman carries bread and wineF
And fruit ripens in the peace of a sunny chamberC
-
Oh how stern is the face of the beloved who have taken their passageO
Yet the soul is comforted in righteous meditationB
-
Overwhelming is the desolated garden s secrecyN
As the young novice has wreathed his brow with brown leavesN
His breath inhales icy goldP
-
The hands touch the antiquity of blueish waterC
Or in a cold night the sisters white cheeksN
-
In quiet and harmony we walk along a suite of hospitable roomsN
Into solitude and the rustling of maple treesN
Where perhaps the thrush still singsN
-
Beautiful is man and emerging from the darkQ
He marvels as he moves his arms and legsN
And his eyes quietly roll in purple cavitiesN
-
At suppertime a stranger loses himself in November s black destitutionB
Under brittle branches he follows a wall covered under leprosyN
Once the holy brother went hereR
Engrossed in the tender music of his madnessN
-
Oh how lonely settles the evening windS
Dying away a man s head droops in the dark of the olive treeN
-
How shattering is the decline of a familyN
This is the hour when the seer s eyes are filledT
With gold as he beholds the starsN
-
The evening s descend has muffled the belfry s knell in silenceN
Among black walls in the public placeN
A dead soldier calls for a prayerU
-
Like a pale angelE
The son enters his ancestor s empty houseN
-
The sisters have traveled far to the pale ancientsN
At night returned from their mournful pilgrimageO
He found them asleep under the columns of the hallwayV
-
Oh hair stained with dung and wormsN
As his silver feet stepped on itW
And on those who died in echoing roomsN
-
Oh you palms under midnight s burning rainX
When the servants flogged those tender eyes with nettlesN
The hollyhock s early fruitY
Beheld your empty grave in wonderC
-
Fading moons sail quietlyN
Over the sheets of the feverish ladZ
Into the silence of winterC
-
At the bank of Kidron a great mind is lost in musingA2
Under a tree the tender cedarC
Stretched out under the father s blue eyebrowsN
Where a shepherd drives his flock to pastures at nightH
-
Or there are screams which escape the sleepB2
When an iron angel approaches man in the groveC2
The holy man s flesh melts over burning coalsN
-
Purple wine climbs about the mud cottageO
Sheaves of faded corn singA2
The buzz of bees the crane s flightH
In the evening the souls of the resurrected gather on rocky pathsN
-
Lepers behold their image in dark waterC
Or they lift the hemp of their dung soiled attireC
And weep to the soothing wind as it drifts down from the rosy hillD2
-
Slender maidens grope their way through the narrow lanes of nightH
They hope for the gracious shepherdE2
Tenderly songs ring out from the huts on weekendF2
-
Let the song pay homage to the boyG2
To his madness to his white eyebrows and to his passageO
To the decaying corpse who opened his blue eyesN
Oh how sad is this reunionB
-
The stairs of madness in black apartmentsN
The matriarch s shadow emerged under the open doorH2
When Helian s soul beheld his image in a rosy mirrorC
And from his brow bled snow and leprosyN
-
The walls extinguished the starsN
And the white effigies of lightH
-
From the carpet rise skeletons escaping their gravesN
Fallen crosses sit silent on the hillD2
The night s purple wind is sweet with frankincenseN
-
Oh ye broken eyes over black gaping jawsN
When the grandson in the solitudeI2
Of his tender madness muses over a darker endingA2
The blue eyelids of the silent god sink upon himJ2
