Epilogue Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCDD EEFG HHII JJKK LLMN

If I have studied here in partA
A tale as old as maiden's heartA
'Tis that I do see hereinB
Shadow of more piteous sinB
-
She that but giving part not wholeC
Took even the part back is the SoulC
And that so disdain ed LoverD
Best unthought since Love is overD
-
Love to invite desire and fearE
And Love's exactions cost too dearE
Count for Love's possession ahF
Thy way misera AnimaG
-
To give the pledge and yet be pinedH
That a pledge should have force to bindH
This O Soul too often stillI
Is the recreance of thy willI
-
Out of Love's arms to make fond chainJ
And because struggle bringeth painJ
Hate Love for Love's sweet constraintK
Is the way of Souls that faintK
-
Such a Soul for saddest endL
Finds Love the foe in Love the friendL
And ah grief incredibleM
Treads the way of Heaven to HellN
