Can I forget her crueltyA
Who brown miracle gave you meA
Or with unmoisted eyes think onB
The proud surrender overgoneB
Lowlihead in haughty dressC
Of the tender tyrannessC
And ere thou for my joy was givenB
How rough the road to that blest heavenB
With what pangs I fore expiatedA
Thy cold outlawry from her headA
How was I trampled and brought lowD
Because her virgin neck was soD
How thralled beneath the jealous stateA
She stood at point to abdicateA
How sacrificed before to meA
She sacrificed her pride and theeA
How did she struggling to abaseD
Herself to do me strange sweet graceD
Enforce unwitting me to shareE
Her throes and abjectness with herF
Thence heightening that hour when her loverF
Her grace with trembling should discoverF
And in adoring trouble beA
Humbled at her humilityA
And with what pitilessness was IG
After slain to pacifyG
The uneasy manes of her shameH
Her haunting blushes Mine the blameH
What fair injustice did I rueI
For what I did not tempt her toI
Nor aught the judging maid might winB
Me to assoil from HER sweet sinB
But nought were extreme punishmentA
For that beyond divine contentA
When my with thee first giddied eyesD
Stooped ere their due on ParadiseD
O hour of consternating blissD
When I heavened me in thy kissD
Thy softness daring overmuchJ
Profan ed with my licensed touchJ
Worshipped with tears on happy kneeA
Her doubt her trust her shyness freeA
Her timorous audacityA
