Of Love and I with all his fire was caughtD
The steps of my fair wild one still I soughtE
To trace o'er desert mountains as she stray'dC
And much I dared in bitter strains to upbraidC
Both Love and her whom I so cruel thoughtE
But rude was then my genius and untaughtE
My rhymes while weak and new the ideas play'dE
Dead is that fire and cold its ashes lieB
In one small tomb which had it still grown onF
E'en to old age as oft by others feltE
Arm'd with the power of rhyme which wretched IB
E'en now disclaim my riper strains had wonG
E'en stones to burst and in soft sorrows meltE
