Qui reposan quei caste e felice ossaA

Here peaceful sleeps the chaste the happy shadeB
Of that pure spirit which adorn'd this earthC
Pure fame true beauty and transcendent worthC
Rude stone beneath thy rugged breast are laidB
Death sudden snatch'd the dear lamented maidB
Who first to all my tender woes gave birthC
Woes that estranged my sorrowing soul to mirthC
While full four lustres time completely madeB
Sweet plant that nursed on Avignon's sweet soilD
There bloom'd there died when soon the weeping MuseE
Threw by the lute forsook her wonted toilD
Bright spark of beauty that still fires my breastF
What pitying mortal shall a prayer refuseE
That Heaven may number thee amid the blestF

Here rest the chaste the dear the blest remainsH
Of her most lovely peerless while on earthC
What late was beauty spotless honour worthC
Stern marble here thy chill embrace retainsH
The freshness of the laurel Death disdainsH
And hath its root thus wither'd Such the dearthC
O'ertakes me Here I bury ease and mirthC
And hope from twenty years of cares and painsH
This happy plant Avignon lonely fedI
With Life and saw it die And with it liesJ
My pen my verse my reason useless deadI
O graceful form Fire which consuming fliesJ
Through all my frame For blessings on thy headI
Oh may continual prayers to heaven riseJ

Here now repose those chaste those blest remainsH
Of that most gentle spirit sole in earthC
Harsh monumental stone that here confinestI
True honour fame and beauty all o'erthrownG
Death has destroy'd that Laurel green and tornG
Its tender roots and all the noble meedI
Of my long warfare passing if arightI
My melancholy reckoning holds four lustresH
O happy plant Avignon's favour'd soilD
Has seen thee spring and die and here with theeK
Thy poet's pen and muse and genius liesH
O lovely beauteous limbs O vivid fireL
That even in death hast power to melt the soulM
Heaven be thy portion peace with God on highN
