I TO MISTRESS BARBARAA
-
There were three cavaliers all handsome and trueB
On Valentine's day came a maiden to wooB
And quoth to your mother Good morrow my dearC
We came with some songs for your daughter to hearD
-
Your mother replied I'll be pleased to conveyE
To my daughter what things you may sing or may sayE
-
Then the first cavalier sung My pretty red roseF
I'll love you and court you some day I supposeF
-
And the next cavalier sung with make believe tearsG
I've loved you I've loved you these many long yearsH
-
But the third cavalier with the brown bushy headI
And the pretty blue jacket and necktie of redI
He drew himself up with a resolute airJ
And he warbled O maiden surpassingly fairJ
I've loved you long years and I love you to dayE
And if you will let me I'll love you for ayeK
-
I the third cavalier sang this ditty to youB
In my necktie of red and my jacket of blueB
I'm sure you'll prefer the song that was mineL
And smile your approval on your valentineL
-
-
II TO A BABY BOYM
-
Who I am I shall not sayE
But I send you this bouquetE
With this query baby mineL
Will you be my valentineL
-
See these roses blushing blueB
Very like your eyes of hueB
While these violets are the redI
Of your cheeks It can be saidI
Ne'er before was babe like youB
-
And I think it is quite trueB
No one e'er before to dayE
Sent so wondrous a bouquetE
As these posies aforesaidI
Roses blue and violets redI
-
Sweet repay me sweets for sweetsN
'Tis your lover who entreatsN
Smile upon me baby mineL
Be my little valentineL
