To The Ship Of State Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBA CDDC EFFG HIIH EJKE BLLB

O ship of stateA
Shall new winds bear you back upon the seaB
What are you doing Seek the harbor's leeB
Ere 't is too lateA
-
Do you bemoanC
Your side was stripped of oarage in the blastD
Swift Africus has weakened too your mastD
The sailyards groanC
-
Of cables bareE
Your keel can scarce endure the lordly waveF
Your sails are rent you have no gods to saveF
Or answer pray'rG
-
Though Pontic pineH
The noble daughter of a far famed woodI
You boast your lineage and title goodI
A useless lineH
-
The sailor thereE
In painted sterns no reassurance findsJ
Unless you owe derision to the windsK
Beware bewareE
-
My grief erewhileB
But now my care my longing shun the seasL
That flow between the gleaming CycladesL
Each shining isleB
