To Quintius Hirpinus Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBA CDEED AAFFA BAGGA HBIIJ KLMML

To Scythian and Cantabrian plotsA
Pay them no heed O QuintiusA
So long as weB
From care are freeB
Vexations cannot cinch usA
-
Unwrinkled youth and grace forsoothC
Speed hand in hand togetherD
The songs we singE
In time of springE
Are hushed in wintry weatherD
-
Why even flow'rs change with the hoursA
And the moon has divers phasesA
And shall the mindF
Be racked to findF
A clew to Fortune's mazesA
-
Nay 'neath this tree let you and meB
Woo Bacchus to caress usA
We're old 't is trueG
But still we twoG
Are thoroughbreds God bless usA
-
While the wine gets cool in yonder poolH
Let's spruce up nice and tidyB
Who knows old boyI
But we may decoyI
The fair but furtive LydeJ
-
She can execute on her ivory luteK
Sonatas full of passionL
And she bangs her hairM
Which is passing fairM
In the good old Spartan fashionL
