To Mary Field French Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GAGA

A dying mother gave to youA
Her child a many years agoB
How in your gracious love he grewA
You know dear patient heart you knowB
-
The mother's child you fostered thenC
Salutes you now and bids you takeD
These little children of his penC
And love them for the author's sakeD
-
To you I dedicate this bookE
And as you read it line by lineF
Upon its faults as kindly lookE
As you have always looked on mineF
-
Tardy the offering is and weakG
Yet were I happy if I knewA
These children had the power to speakG
My love and gratitude to youA
