Rhyme Scheme: ABCCB DEFFE GHIIH DAEEAUpon a mountain height far from the sea | A |
I found a shell | B |
And to my listening ear the lonely thing | C |
Ever a song of ocean seemed to sing | C |
Ever a tale of ocean seemed to tell | B |
- | |
How came the shell upon that mountain height | D |
Ah who can say | E |
Whether there dropped by some too careless hand | F |
Or whether there cast when Ocean swept the Land | F |
Ere the Eternal had ordained the Day | E |
- | |
Strange was it not Far from its native deep | G |
One song it sang | H |
Sang of the awful mysteries of the tide | I |
Sang of the misty sea profound and wide | I |
Ever with echoes of the ocean rang | H |
- | |
And as the shell upon the mountain height | D |
Sings of the sea | A |
So do I ever leagues and leagues away | E |
So do I ever wandering where I may | E |
Sing O my home sing O my home of thee | A |
