The Two Coffins Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE DGHG IEJE DKLK

In yonder old cathedralA
Two lovely coffins lieB
In one the head of the state lies deadC
And a singer sleeps hard byB
-
Once had that King great powerD
And proudly ruled the landE
His crown e'en now is on his browF
And his sword is in his handE
-
How sweetly sleeps the singerD
With calmly folded eyesG
And on the breast of the bard at restH
The harp that he sounded liesG
-
The castle walls are fallingI
And war distracts the landE
But the sword leaps not from that mildewed spotJ
There in that dead king's handE
-
But with every grace of natureD
There seems to float alongK
To cheer again the hearts of menL
The singer's deathless songK
