The Sugar-plum Tree Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEFEFGHGHIJKJ LGLGMNMNABABHave you ever heard of the Sugar Plum Tree | A |
'T is a marvel of great renown | B |
It blooms on the shore of the Lollipop sea | A |
In the garden of Shut Eye Town | B |
The fruit that it bears is so wondrously sweet | C |
As those who have tasted it say | D |
That good little children have only to eat | C |
Of that fruit to be happy next day | D |
When you 've got to the tree you would have a hard time | E |
To capture the fruit which I sing | F |
The tree is so tall that no person could climb | E |
To the boughs where the sugar plums swing | F |
But up in that tree sits a chocolate cat | G |
And a gingerbread dog prowls below | H |
And this is the way you contrive to get at | G |
Those sugar plums tempting you so | H |
You say but the word to that gingerbread dog | I |
And he barks with such terrible zest | J |
That the chocolate cat is at once all agog | K |
As her swelling proportions attest | J |
And the chocolate cat goes cavorting around | L |
From this leafy limb unto that | G |
And the sugar plums tumble of course to the ground | L |
Hurrah for that chocolate cat | G |
There are marshmallows gumdrops and peppermint canes | M |
With stripings of scarlet or gold | N |
And you carry away of the treasure that rains | M |
As much as your apron can hold | N |
So come little child cuddle closer to me | A |
In your dainty white nightcap and gown | B |
And I 'll rock you away to that Sugar Plum Tree | A |
In the garden of Shut Eye Town | B |
