The Sugar-plum Tree Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEFEFGHGHIJKJ LGLGMNMNABAB

Have you ever heard of the Sugar Plum TreeA
'T is a marvel of great renownB
It blooms on the shore of the Lollipop seaA
In the garden of Shut Eye TownB
The fruit that it bears is so wondrously sweetC
As those who have tasted it sayD
That good little children have only to eatC
Of that fruit to be happy next dayD
When you 've got to the tree you would have a hard timeE
To capture the fruit which I singF
The tree is so tall that no person could climbE
To the boughs where the sugar plums swingF
But up in that tree sits a chocolate catG
And a gingerbread dog prowls belowH
And this is the way you contrive to get atG
Those sugar plums tempting you soH
You say but the word to that gingerbread dogI
And he barks with such terrible zestJ
That the chocolate cat is at once all agogK
As her swelling proportions attestJ
And the chocolate cat goes cavorting aroundL
From this leafy limb unto thatG
And the sugar plums tumble of course to the groundL
Hurrah for that chocolate catG
There are marshmallows gumdrops and peppermint canesM
With stripings of scarlet or goldN
And you carry away of the treasure that rainsM
As much as your apron can holdN
So come little child cuddle closer to meA
In your dainty white nightcap and gownB
And I 'll rock you away to that Sugar Plum TreeA
In the garden of Shut Eye TownB
