The Sleeping Child Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBA CDDC EFFE GHHG IJJI

My baby slept how calm his restA
As o'er his handsome face a smileB
Like that of angel flitted whileB
He lay so still upon my breastA
-
My baby slept his baby headC
Lay all unkiss'd 'neath pall and shroudD
I did not weep or cry aloudD
I only wished I too were deadC
-
My baby sleeps a tiny moundE
All covered by the little flowersF
Woos me in all my waking hoursF
Down in the quiet burying groundE
-
And when I sleep I seem to beG
With baby in another landH
I take his little baby handH
He smiles and sings sweet songs to meG
-
Sleep on O baby while I keepI
My vigils till this day be passedJ
Then shall I too lie down at lastJ
And with my baby darling sleepI
