The Ride To Bumpville Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCCCB DBDBEEEB FBFBGGGB HBHBIIIB HBHBFFFB

Play that my knee was a calico mareA
Saddled and bridled for BumpvilleB
Leap to the back of this steed if you dareA
And gallop away to BumpvilleB
I hope you'll be sure to sit fast in your seatC
For this calico mare is prodigiously fleetC
And many adventures you're likely to meetC
As you journey along to BumpvilleB
-
This calico mare both gallops and trotsD
While whisking you off to BumpvilleB
She paces she shies and she stumbles in spotsD
In the tortuous road to BumpvilleB
And sometimes this strangely mercurial steedE
Will suddenly stop and refuse to proceedE
Which all will admit is vexatious indeedE
When one is en route to BumpvilleB
-
She's scared of the cars when the engine goes TootF
Down by the crossing at BumpvilleB
You'd better look out for that treacherous bruteF
Bearing you off to BumpvilleB
With a snort she rears up on her hindermost heelsG
And executes jigs and Virginia reelsG
Words fail to explain how embarrassed one feelsG
Dancing so wildly to BumpvilleB
-
It's bumpytybump and it's jiggytyjogH
Journeying on to BumpvilleB
It's over the hilltop and down through the bogH
You ride on your way to BumpvilleB
It's rattletybang over boulder and stumpI
There are rivers to ford there are fences to jumpI
And the corduroy road it goes bumpytybumpI
Mile after mile to bumpvilleB
-
Perhaps you'll observe it's no easy thingH
Making the journey to BumpvilleB
So I think on the whole it were prudent to bringH
An end to this ride to BumpvilleB
For though she has uttered no protest or plaintF
The calico mare must be blowing and faintF
What's more to the point I'm blowed if I ain'tF
So play we have got to BumpvilleB
