The Duel Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCACC DEEEFFEGG GGAAHHGCC AAIIJJAEE

The gingham dog and the calico catA
Side by side on the table satA
'T was half past twelve and what do you thinkB
Nor one nor t' other had slept a winkB
The old Dutch clock and the Chinese plateC
Appeared to know as sure as fateC
There was going to be a terrible spatA
I wasn't there I simply stateC
What was told to me by the Chinese plateC
-
The gingham dog went bow wow wowD
And the calico cat replied mee owE
The air was littered an hour or soE
With bits of gingham and calicoE
While the old Dutch clock in the chimney placeF
Up with its hands before its faceF
For it always dreaded a family rowE
Now mind I'm only telling youG
What the old Dutch clock declares is trueG
-
The Chinese plate looked very blueG
And wailed Oh dear what shall we doG
But the gingham dog and the calico catA
Wallowed this way and tumbled thatA
Employing every tooth and clawH
In the awfullest way you ever sawH
And oh how the gingham and calico flewG
Don't fancy I exaggerateC
I got my news from the Chinese plateC
-
Next morning where the two had satA
They found no trace of dog or catA
And some folks think unto this dayI
That burglars stole that pair awayI
But the truth about the cat and pupJ
Is this they ate each other upJ
Now what do you really think of thatA
The old Dutch clock it told me soE
And that is how I came to knowE
