When the world is fast asleepA
Along the midnight skiesB
As though it were a wandering cloudC
The ghostly dream ship fliesB
-
An angel stands at the dream ship's helmD
An angel stands at the prowE
And an angel stands at the dream ship's sideF
With a rue wreath on her browE
-
The other angels silver crownedG
Pilot and helmsman areH
And the angel with the wreath of rueI
Tosseth the dreams afarH
-
The dreams they fall on rich and poorJ
They fall on young and oldK
And some are dreams of povertyL
And some are dreams of goldK
-
And some are dreams that thrill with joyM
And some that melt to tearsN
Some are dreams of the dawn of loveO
And some of the old dead yearsP
-
On rich and poor alike they fallQ
Alike on young and oldK
Bringing to slumbering earth their joysR
And sorrows manifoldK
-
The friendless youth in them shall doI
The deeds of mighty menS
And drooping age shall feel the graceT
Of buoyant youth againS
-
The king shall be a beggarmanS
The pauper be a kingU
In that revenge or recompenseV
The dream ship dreams do bringU
-
So ever downward float the dreamsW
That are for all and meL
And there is never mortal manS
Can solve that mysteryL
-
But ever onward in its courseX
Along the haunted skiesB
As though it were a cloud astrayY
The ghostly dream ship fliesB
-
Two angels with their silver crownsZ
Pilot and helmsman areH
And an angel with a wreath of rueI
Tosseth the dreams afarH
