The Discreet Collector Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGDGD AHAHIDID JIJIFDFD CKCKLDLD| Down south there is a curio shop | A |
| Unknown to many men | B |
| Thereat do I intend to stop | A |
| When I am south again | B |
| The narrow street through which to go | C |
| Aha I know it well | D |
| And may be you would like to know | C |
| But no I will not tell | D |
| - | |
| 'T is there to find the loveliest plates | E |
| The bluest of the blue | F |
| At such surprisingly low rates | E |
| You'd not believe it true | F |
| And there is one Napoleon vase | G |
| Of dainty Sevres to sell | D |
| I'm sure you'd like to know that place | G |
| But no I will not tell | D |
| - | |
| Then too I know another shop | A |
| Has old old beds for sale | H |
| With lovely testers up on top | A |
| Carved in ornate detail | H |
| And there are sideboards rich and rare | I |
| With fronts that proudly swell | D |
| Oh there are bargains waiting there | I |
| But where I will not tell | D |
| - | |
| And hark I know a bottle man | J |
| Smiling and debonair | I |
| And he has promised me I can | J |
| Choose of his precious ware | I |
| In age and shape and color too | F |
| His dainty goods excel | D |
| Aha my friends if you but knew | F |
| But no I will not tell | D |
| - | |
| A thousand other shops I know | C |
| Where bargains can be got | K |
| Where other folk would like to go | C |
| Who have what I have not | K |
| I let them hunt I hold my mouth | L |
| Yes though I know full well | D |
| Where lie the treasures of the south | L |
| I'm not a going to tell | D |
