The Brook Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCCCDDB ABABCCCDDB BB

I looked in the brook and saw a faceA
Heigh ho but a child was IB
There were rushes and willows in that placeA
And they clutched at the brook as the brook ran byB
And the brook it ran its own sweet wayC
As a child doth run in heedless playC
And as it ran I heard it sayC
Hasten with meD
To the roistering seaD
That is wroth with the flame of the morning skyB
-
I look in the brook and see a faceA
Heigh ho but the years go byB
The rushes are dead in the old time placeA
And the willows I knew when a child was IB
And the brook it seemeth to me to sayC
As ever it stealeth on its wayC
Solemnly now and not in playC
Oh come with meD
To the slumbrous seaD
That is gray with the peace of the evening skyB
-
Heigh ho but the years go byB
I would to God that a child were IB
