The Bibliomaniac's Prayer Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEFEF GAGAHIHIGJGK

Keep me I pray in wisdom's wayA
That I may truths eternal seekB
I need protecting care to dayA
My purse is light my flesh is weakB
So banish from my erring heartC
All baleful appetites and hintsD
Of Satan's fascinating artC
Of first editions and of printsD
Direct me in some godly walkE
Which leads away from bookish strifeF
That I with pious deed and talkE
May extra illustrate my lifeF
-
But if O Lord it pleaseth TheeG
To keep me in temptation's wayA
I humbly ask that I may beG
Most notably beset to dayA
Let my temptation be a bookH
Which I shall purchase hold and keepI
Whereon when other men shall lookH
They'll wail to know I got it cheapI
Oh let it such a volume beG
As in rare copperplates aboundsJ
Large paper clean and fair to seeG
Uncut unique unknown to LowndesK
