Nightfall In Dordrecht Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGDGD AHAHEDED IJIJCDCD

The mill goes toiling slowly aroundA
With steady and solemn creakB
And my little one hears in the kindly soundA
The voice of the old mill speakB
While round and round those big white wingsC
Grimly and ghostlike creepD
My little one hears that the old mill singsC
Sleep little tulip sleepD
-
The sails are reefed and the nets are drawnE
And over his pot of beerF
The fisher against the morrow s dawnE
Lustily maketh cheerF
He mocks at the winds that caper alongG
From the far off clamorous deepD
But we we love their lullaby songG
Of Sleep little tulip sleepD
-
Old dog Fritz in slumber soundA
Groans of the stony martH
To morrow how proudly he ll trot you roundA
Hitched to our new milk cartH
And you shall help me blanket the kineE
And fold the gentle sheepD
And set the herring a soak in brineE
But now little tulip sleepD
-
A Dream One comes to button the eyesI
That wearily droop and blinkJ
While the old mill buffets the frowning skiesI
And scolds at the stars that winkJ
Over your face the misty wingsC
Of that beautiful Dream One sweepD
And rocking your cradle she softly singsC
Sleep little tulip sleepD
