New-year's Eve Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFEGHIHJKLK MNIN OFPFJQJQMJIJIJGood old days dear old days | A |
When my heart beat high and bold | B |
When the things of earth seemed full of life | C |
And the future a haze of gold | B |
Oh merry was I that winter night | D |
And gleeful our little one's din | E |
And tender the grace of my darling's face | F |
As we watched the new year in | E |
But a voice a spectre's that mocked at love | G |
Came out of the yonder hall | H |
Tick tock tick tock 't was the solemn clock | I |
That ruefully croaked to all | H |
Yet what knew we of the griefs to be | J |
In the year we longed to greet | K |
Love love was the theme of the sweet sweet dream | L |
I fancied might never fleet | K |
- | |
But the spectre stood in that yonder gloom | M |
And these were the words it spake | N |
Tick tock tick tock and they seemed to mock | I |
A heart about to break | N |
- | |
'T is new year's eve and again I watch | O |
In the old familiar place | F |
And I'm thinking again of that old time when | P |
I looked on a dear one's face | F |
Never a little one hugs my knee | J |
And I hear no gleeful shout | Q |
I am sitting alone by the old hearthstone | J |
Watching the old year out | Q |
But I welcome the voice in yonder gloom | M |
That solemnly calls to me | J |
Tick tock tick tock for so the clock | I |
Tells of a life to be | J |
Tick tock tick tock 'tis so the clock | I |
Tells of eternity | J |
