Long Ago Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGDGD HIHIGDGD JGJGCDCD

I once knew all the birds that cameA
And nested in our orchard treesB
For every flower I had a nameA
My friends were woodchucks toads and beesB
I knew where thrived in yonder glenC
What plants would soothe a stone bruised toeD
Oh I was very learned thenC
But that was very long agoD
-
I knew the spot upon the hillE
Where checkerberries could be foundF
I knew the rushes near the millE
Where pickerel lay that weighed a poundF
I knew the wood the very treeG
Where lived the poaching saucy crowD
And all the woods and crows knew meG
But that was very long agoD
-
And pining for the joys of youthH
I tread the old familiar spotI
Only to learn this solemn truthH
I have forgotten am forgotI
Yet here's this youngster at my kneeG
Knows all the things I used to knowD
To think I once was wise as heG
But that was very long agoD
-
I know it's folly to complainJ
Of whatsoe'er the Fates decreeG
Yet were not wishes all in vainJ
I tell you what my wish should beG
I'd wish to be a boy againC
Back with the friends I used to knowD
For I was oh so happy thenC
But that was very long agoD
