Little Boy Blue Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

The little toy dog is covered with dustA
But sturdy and stanch he standsB
And the little toy soldier is red with rustA
And his musket molds in his handsB
Time was when the little toy dog was newC
And the soldier was passing fairD
And that was the time when our Little Boy BlueC
Kissed them and put them thereD
-
Now don't you go till I come he saidE
And don't you make any noiseF
So toddling off to his trundle bedE
He dreamed of the pretty toysF
And as he was dreaming an angel songG
Awakened our Little Boy BlueC
Oh the years are many the years are longG
But the little toy friends are trueC
-
Ay faithful to Little Boy Blue they standH
Each in the same old placeI
Awaiting the touch of a little handH
The smile of a little faceI
And they wonder as waiting these long years throughC
In the dust of that little chairD
What has become of our Little Boy BlueC
Since he kissed them and put them thereD

Annie Zimbardi: At 90 years old these lyrics still bring the same pathos they brought when I first sang this song at 10 years of age. Now I know who wrote them
