When the busy day is doneA
And my weary little oneA
Rocketh gently to and froB
When the night winds softly blowB
And the crickets in the glenC
Chirp and chirp and chirp againC
When upon the haunted greenD
Fairies dance around their queenD
Then from yonder misty skiesE
Cometh Lady Button EyesE
-
Through the murk and mist and gloamF
To our quiet cozy homeF
Where to singing sweet and lowB
Rocks a cradle to and froB
Where the clock's dull monotoneG
Telleth of the day that's doneA
Where the moonbeams hover o'erH
Playthings sleeping on the floorI
Where my weary wee one liesE
Cometh Lady Button EyesE
-
Cometh like a fleeting ghostJ
From some distant eerie coastJ
Never footfall can you hearK
As that spirit fareth nearL
Never whisper never wordM
From that shadow queen is heardM
In ethereal raiment dightM
From the realm of fay and spriteM
In the depth of yonder skiesE
Cometh Lady Button EyesE
-
Layeth she her hands uponN
My dear weary little oneA
And those white hands overspreadM
Like a veil the curly headM
Seem to fondle and caressO
Every little silken tressO
Then she smooths the eyelids downP
Over those two eyes of brownP
In such soothing tender wiseE
Cometh Lady Button EyesE
-
Dearest feel upon your browQ
That caressing magic nowQ
For the crickets in the glenC
Chirp and chirp and chirp againC
While upon the haunted greenD
Fairies dance around their queenD
And the moonbeams hover o'erH
Playthings sleeping on the floorI
Hush my sweet from yonder skiesE
Cometh Lady Button EyesE
