Krinken was a little child	A
It was summer when he smiled	A
Oft the hoary sea and grim	B
Stretched its white arms out to him	B
Calling Sun child come to me	C
Let me warm my heart with thee	C
But the child heard not the sea	C
Calling yearning evermore	D
For the summer on the shore	D

Saw a maiden Nis at play	E
On the pebbly beach she played	F
In the summer Krinken made	F
Fair and very fair was she	C
Just a little child was he	C
Krinken said the maiden Nis	C
Let me have a little kiss	C
Just a kiss and go with me	C
To the summer lands that be	C
Down within the silver sea	C

By the maiden Nis beguiled	A
Hand in hand with her went he	C
And 'twas summer in the sea	C
And the hoary sea and grim	B
To its bosom folded him	B
Clasped and kissed the little form	G
And the ocean's heart was warm	G

It is winter on the shore	D
Winter where that little child	A
Made sweet summer when he smiled	A
Though 'tis summer on the sea	C
Where with maiden Nis went he	C
Summer summer evermore	D

Come sweet visions in my sleep	H
His fair face lifts from the sea	C
His dear voice calls out to me	C
