Hugo's Pool In The Forest Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH IJIJ

How calm how beauteous and how coolA
How like a sister to the skiesB
Appears the broad transparent poolA
That in this quiet forest liesB
The sunshine ripples on its faceC
And from the world around aboveD
It hath caught down the nameless graceC
Of such reflections as we loveD
-
But deep below its surface crawlE
The reptile horrors of the nightF
The dragons lizards serpents allE
The hideous brood that hate the lightF
Through poison fern and slimy weedG
And under ragged jagged stonesH
They scuttle or in ghoulish greedG
They lap a dead man's bleaching bonesH
-
And as O pool thou dost cajoleI
With seemings that beguile us wellJ
So doeth many a human soulI
That teemeth with the lusts of hellJ
