Horace I, 4. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFG HGIG JKLK MMNM

'Tis spring the boats bound to the seaA
The breezes loitering kindly overB
The fields again bring herds and menC
The grateful cheer of honeyed cloverB
-
Now Venus hither leads her trainD
The Nymphs and Graces join in orgiesE
The moon is bright and by her lightF
Old Vulcan kindles up his forgesG
-
Bind myrtle now about your browH
And weave fair flowers in maiden tressesG
Appease God Pan who kind to manI
Our fleeting life with affluence blessesG
-
But let the changing seasons mind usJ
That Death's the certain doom of mortalsK
Grim Death who waits at humble gatL
And likewise stalks through kingly portalsK
-
Soon Sestius shall Plutonian shadesM
Enfold you with their hideous seemingsM
Then love and mirth and joys of earthN
Shall fade away like fevered dreamingsM
