I like the Anglo Saxon speech	A
With its direct revealings	B
It takes a hold and seems to reach	A
'Way down into your feelings	B
That some folk deem it rude I know	C
And therefore they abuse it	D
But I have never found it so	C
Before all else I choose it	D
I don't object that men should air	E
The Gallic they have paid for	F
With Au revoir Adieu ma ch re	G
For that's what French was made for	F
But when a crony takes your hand	H
At parting to address you	I
He drops all foreign lingo and	J
He says Good by God bless you	I

This seems to me a sacred phrase	B
With reverence impassioned	J
A thing come down from righteous days	B
Quaintly but nobly fashioned	J
It well becomes an honest face	B
A voice that's round and cheerful	K
It stays the sturdy in his place	B
And soothes the weak and fearful	K
Into the porches of the ears	B
It steals with subtle unction	C
And in your heart of hearts appears	B
To work its gracious function	C
And all day long with pleasing song	L
It lingers to caress you	I
I'm sure no human heart goes wrong	L
That's told Good by God bless you	I

When I was leaving Mother	M
Standing at last in solemn pause	B
We looked at one another	M
And I I saw in Mother's eyes	B
The love she could not tell me	N
A love eternal as the skies	B
Whatever fate befell me	N
She put her arms about my neck	O
And soothed the pain of leaving	P
And though her heart was like to break	Q
She spoke no word of grieving	P
She let no tear bedim her eye	R
For fear that might distress me	N
But kissing me she said good by	R
And asked our God to bless me	N
