Good-by--god Bless You! Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

I like the Anglo Saxon speechA
With its direct revealingsB
It takes a hold and seems to reachA
'Way down into your feelingsB
That some folk deem it rude I knowC
And therefore they abuse itD
But I have never found it soC
Before all else I choose itD
I don't object that men should airE
The Gallic they have paid forF
With Au revoir Adieu ma ch reG
For that's what French was made forF
But when a crony takes your handH
At parting to address youI
He drops all foreign lingo andJ
He says Good by God bless youI
-
This seems to me a sacred phraseB
With reverence impassionedJ
A thing come down from righteous daysB
Quaintly but nobly fashionedJ
It well becomes an honest faceB
A voice that's round and cheerfulK
It stays the sturdy in his placeB
And soothes the weak and fearfulK
Into the porches of the earsB
It steals with subtle unctionC
And in your heart of hearts appearsB
To work its gracious functionC
And all day long with pleasing songL
It lingers to caress youI
I'm sure no human heart goes wrongL
That's told Good by God bless youI
-
I love the words perhaps becauseB
When I was leaving MotherM
Standing at last in solemn pauseB
We looked at one anotherM
And I I saw in Mother's eyesB
The love she could not tell meN
A love eternal as the skiesB
Whatever fate befell meN
She put her arms about my neckO
And soothed the pain of leavingP
And though her heart was like to breakQ
She spoke no word of grievingP
She let no tear bedim her eyeR
For fear that might distress meN
But kissing me she said good byR
And asked our God to bless meN
