Fisherman Jim lived on the hillA
With his bonnie wife an' his little boysB
'T wuz Blow ye winds as blow ye willA
Naught we reck of your cold and noiseB
For happy and warm were he an' hisC
And he dandled his kids upon his kneeD
To the song of the seaD
-
Fisherman Jim would sail all dayE
But when come night upon the sandsF
His little kids ran from their playE
Callin' to him an' wavin' their handsF
Though the wind was fresh and the sea was highG
He'd hear'em you bet above the roarH
Of the waves on the shoreH
-
Once Fisherman Jim sailed into the bayE
As the sun went down in a cloudy skyG
And never a kid saw he at playE
And he listened in vain for the welcoming cryG
In his little house he learned it allI
And he clinched his hands and he bowed his headJ
The fever they saidJ
-
'T wuz a pitiful time for Fisherman JimK
With them darlin's a dyin' afore his eyesL
A stretchin' their wee hands out to himK
An' a breakin' his heart with the old time criesL
He had heerd so often upon the sandsF
For they thought they wuz helpin' his boat ashoreH
Till they spoke no moreH
-
But Fisherman Jim lived on and onM
Castin' his nets an' sailin' the seaD
As a man will live when his heart is goneN
Fisherman Jim lived hopelesslyD
Till once in those years they come an' saidJ
Old Fisherman Jim is powerful sickO
Go to him quickO
-
Then Fisherman Jim says he to meD
It's a long long cruise you understandP
But over beyont the ragin' seaD
I kin see my boys on the shinin' sandP
Waitin' to help this ol' hulk ashoreH
Just as they used to ah mate you knowQ
In the long agoQ
-
No sir he wuzn't afeard to dieG
For all night long he seemed to seeD
His little boys of the days gone byG
An' to hear sweet voices forgot by meD
An' just as the mornin' sun come upR
They're holdin' me by the hands he criedS
An' so he diedS
