Fame _vs._ Riches Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIH

The Greeks had genius 't was a giftA
The Muse vouchsafed in glorious measureB
The boon of Fame they made their aimC
And prized above all worldly treasureB
-
But we how do we train our youthD
Not in the arts that are immortalE
But in the greed for gains that speedF
From him who stands at Death's dark portalE
-
Ah when this slavish love of goldG
Once binds the soul in greasy fettersH
How prostrate lies how droops and diesI
The great the noble cause of lettersH
