At The Door Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDED FGFG DHDH IJIJ

I thought myself indeed secureA
So fast the door so firm the lockB
But lo he toddling comes to lureA
My parent ear with timorous knockB
-
My heart were stone could it withstandC
The sweetness of my baby's pleaD
That timorous baby knocking andE
Please let me in it's only meD
-
I threw aside the unfinished bookF
Regardless of its tempting charmsG
And opening wide the door I tookF
My laughing darling in my armsG
-
Who knows but in EternityD
I like a truant child shall waitH
The glories of a life to beD
Beyond the Heavenly Father's gateH
-
And will that Heavenly Father heedI
The truant's supplicating cryJ
As at the outer door I pleadI
'T is I O Father only IJ
