Krinken was a little childA
It was summer when he smiledA
Oft the hoary sea and grimB
Stretched its white arms out to himB
Calling 'Sun child come to meC
Let me warm my heart with thee 'D
But the child heard not the seaC
Calling yearning evermoreE
For the summer on the shoreE
-
Krinken on the beach one dayF
Saw a maiden Nis at playF
On the pebbly beach she playedG
In the summer Krinken madeG
Fair and very fair was sheC
Just a little child was heC
'Krinken ' said the maiden NisC
'Let me have a little kissC
Just a kiss and go with meC
To the summer lands that beC
Down within the silver sea '-
-
Krinken was a little childA
By the maiden Nis beguiledA
Hand in hand with her went heC
And 'twas summer in the seaC
And the hoary sea and grimB
To its bosom folded himB
Clasped and kissed the little formH
And the ocean's heart was warmH
-
Now the sea calls out no moreE
It is winter on the shoreE
Winter where that little childA
Made sweet summer when he smiledA
Though 'tis summer on the seaC
Where with maiden Nis went heC
Summer summer evermoreE
It is winter on the shoreE
Winter winter evermoreE
Of the summer on the deepI
Come sweet visions in my sleepI
-
HisC
fair face lifts from the seaC
-
HisC
dear voice calls out to meC
These my dreams of summer beC
-
Krinken was a little childA
By the maiden Nis beguiledA
Oft the hoary sea and grimB
Reached its longing arms to himB
Crying 'Sun child come to meC
Let me warm my heart with thee '-
But the sea calls out no moreE
It is winter on the shoreE
Winter cold and dark and wildA
Krinken was a little childA
It was summer when he smiledA
Down he went into the seaC
And the winter bides with meC
Just a little child was heC
